Nehru was solely responsible for partition of India-Dalai Lama!

According to the Dalai Lama- the exiled Tibetan religious leader- the self-centered attitude of J L Nehru was responsible for the partition of India. While interacting with students of Goa institutes of Management on Wednesday the 8th August’2018 at Sakhali in Goa. Dalai Lama further said that Mahatma Gandhi was very much willing to allow Muhammad Ali Jinnah to become the Prime Minister of India to avoid the partition of India. But according to him, Nehru was adamant and wanted to become PM of India.

Born on 6th July 1935 and enthroned on 22nd July 1940 as 14th Dalai Lama (spiritual leader of Tibetans), he took up full temporal (political) duties from 17th November 1950. However during Tibetan uprising in 1959, fearing for his life, Dalai Lama fled to India along with his retinue and some 80000 Tibetan refugees who followed him and set up a Government of Tibet in exile at Dharamshala in the Himachal Pradesh state of India.

By terming the insistence of Nehru to be the first PM of India as a mistake, the Dalai Lama further said that “I knew Nehru personally and he was a very well experienced person otherwise. But sometimes mistakes also happen.”

However as an Indian I must say that it was not Nehru alone, Dr. Shyama Prasad Mukherjee, B R Ambedkar, and some others were also vociferously against Jinnah to become PM and Dr. Mukherjee (of Hindu Mahasabha) was blatantly against Muslims and wanted even at least partition of Bengal into Hindu Muslim segments, in case if it was not possible to divide India.

We must not forget that it is this decision of Nehru to give asylum to the Dalai Lama that has left a trail of enmity between China and India over the last six decades.
